Laser Hair Removal
In the past, the usual remedies for unwanted hair included plucking, shaving, waxing or chemical depilatories. Some of these are painful, some are messy and all are only temporary.
Laser hair removal is a more effective solution. The LightSheer diode laser is a state-of-the-art system specifically designed to remove unwanted hair faster, with less discomfort and more reliability than other methods.
A laser produces a beam of highly concentrated light. The pigment located in hair follicles absorbs the light emitted by the LightSheer diode laser. During the procedure, the laser pulses long enough to heat up the hair and significantly impede the follicle's ability to re-grow. This process also treats numerous hair follicles simultaneously. Therefore, it is appropriate for treating even the largest areas of the body both quickly and effectively.
An important part of the procedure is the cooling of the skin. A special contact-cooling handpiece allows the physician to treat even the most sensitive skin. It protects and cools the upper layer of the skin before, during and after each laser pulse while directing the laser energy to the hair root.
The length of a laser treatment may last anywhere from a few minutes to an hour or more, depending on the size of the area being treated.
The laser treatment itself may cause some discomfort. Most patients tolerate the procedure well, but because some areas of the body are more sensitive than others, topical anesthesia can be an option.
The appearance of the treated area immediately following treatment will vary from patient-to-patient depending on the extent of the procedure and skin type.
The most common possible side effect is redness and swelling around the hair follicle. This is a desired clinical result and indicates that the follicle has responded to the treatment. Most people return to normal activity right away.
If you would like to find out if laser hair removal is right for you, please call our office at 713.407.3067 and schedule a consultation with the doctor.

Botox® Cosmetic
Botox Cosmetic is an FDA-approved, injected treatment to temporarily remove frown lines and crow's feet. Injections have been used safely and effectively since the 1980s to treat many ophthalmologic disorders, neurological disorders and a variety of other conditions. It has become a popular treatment for reversing the visible signs of aging.
Botox Cosmetic (scientifically known as Botulinum Toxin Type A) blocks the nerve signals from the nerve to the tiny facial muscles that are related to expression lines. The actual treatment is well-tolerated and takes only a few minutes, with no down time or lengthy recovery period. The effects will be noticeable about 3 to 7 days after treatment.
Results vary from person-to-person. Dynamic wrinkles, frown lines, scowls or even an angry appearance is eliminated resulting in a younger and more pleasing appearance. Clinical studies indicate that procedures tend to last longer each time you freshen-up your site. Results will typically last four to eight months.
Occasionally some side effects might occur:
- Slight and minor bruising. This can easily be covered with makeup
- Migration to nearby muscles, causing slight, temporary weakness
- Rarely, a temporary drooping of eyelid or asymmetry of facial expression
The risk of any side effect depends on the muscles being injected. The doctor will discuss this with you prior to your treatment. All BoTox injections are temporary and the side effects are completely reversible in a short period.
If you would like to learn more about your cosmetic options, or find out if BOTOX® Cosmetic treatments might work well for you, please call our office and schedule a consultation with the doctor, 713.407.3067.

Juvederm & Restylane
Juvéderm and Restylane are both safe and natural cosmetic dermal fillers that restore volume and fullness to the skin to correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds. They are also used for lip augmentation. These are the only cosmetic dermal fillers made of non-animal-based Hyaluronic Acid. Restylane lasts up to six months, and Juvéderm lasts up to a year, without the disruption of the skin's surface. This means no "down time", literally. JUVÉDERM® XC formulated with lidocaine is now FDA approved and is available immediately. Juvederm filler for fine lines around mouth and nasolabial folds is now available with lidocaine in it. This will make the procedure much more comfortable for the patient. Call today to schedule an appointment.

Sclerotherapy (vein treatment)
Sclerotherapy has been used since the 1930s to effectively treat spider veins. Occasionally, larger varicose veins are connected to spider veins. In such cases, these vessels should be treated along with spider veins.
A sclerosing solution is injected into the spider veins. It causes the lining of the vessel to swell and stick together and the blood to thicken. Over a period of days (or possibly weeks), the vessel turns to scar tissue that fades and becomes barely visible. The number of injections required for this to happen is largely determined by the size of the vessel. Most patients see a 50% to 90% improvement, with the veins fading over the course of months.
There are some possible side effects to Sclerotherapy treatments:
- Stinging or pain at the injection site(s)
- Swelling of the ankles or feet
- Muscle cramps
- Red, raised areas at the site of injection
Stinging, pain, swelling of ankles or feet or muscle cramps usually go away within 10 to 15 minutes after the injection. Red, raised areas usually fade within a day or so. A small percentage of patients are allergic to the sclerosing solution. However, the dermatologist can treat any allergic reactions.
Between treatments, many physicians recommend support or compression hosiery. Over the course of visits, most patients see remarkable, long-lasting results with minimal side effects.
To determine if sclerotherapy is right for you, please call our office, 713.407.3067, and schedule a consultation with the doctor.
